The Health Plan Coordinator is responsible for maintaining and overseeing all aspects of the Student Health Plan and collaborates on long and short term projects with the entire full-time administrative team of the UWSA. What We MakeWHAT WE MAKE is the first exhibition of visual art shown in Gallery 1C03 that has been produced by current faculty, staff, and students of The University of Winnipeg. An open call for submissions has resulted in an exhibition that features a rich sampling of more than 40 pieces of creative work by 17 makers from the University’s community. Gallery visitors will view media that includes painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, ceramics, glass, textiles, and video. Participating artists include Helen Lepp Friesen, Paul Friesen, T. Furmaniuk, Lisa Gabel, Lane Gibson, Kami Goertz, Bruce Hanks, Cathleen Hjalmarson, Glen Johnson, Randy Kroeker, Karen Malcolm, Eric Napier Strong, Davis Plett, Barbara Lynn Read, Laura Smith, Jillian Xenia Sunderland, and Marc Vachon.

Opening Reception is today from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. See you there!

We hope that UWinnipeg students and larger community give a warm welcome to our sister from Guatemala.

Indigenous activist Ana Guadalupe Matzir Miculax will be in Winnipeg speaking about mining in her home country of Guatemala. Ana will be in Canada participating in the Truth and Reconciliation process in Ottawa, and is coming to Winnipeg to present at the UCC’s annual conference.

While in Winnipeg, she will also be sharing her story of Guatemalan mining and human rights for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights’ Oral History Project. She is a student of legal and social sciences and works with CEIBA, the Association for Community Development and Promotion in Guatemala. Ana has been involved in issues related to Indigenous rights including the rights of women, youth and Indigenous land.

She will speak alongside Jo Seenie, Gi-gaa-aki-kwe, Healing Earth Woman, Wolf Clan (Marten Clan) and Anishinabe Nation. She is a mother of two sons and two daughters. A member of the Warrior Alliance Movement. As a member of the Wolf Clan, she is a land and water defender.

And, Rachel Warden, a Latin American Partnerships and Gender program coordinator for KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives.

The event is sponsored by the UWSA, KAIROS, Amnesty International and Migrante Manitoba.

Health Plan Topic of the Week: 2015-2016 UWSA Health Plan Opt Out

The deadline to Opt Out of the UWSA Health Plan for the 2015-2016 school year is September 22, 2015. This coincides with the Course Add/Drop Period. So opt out when you are registering for courses so you don’t miss it.

This is also the deadline to make any changes to your plan type. If you want to Opt In, or add a spouse and/or child to your plan, you need to do it by September 22, 2015 as well.
