Non-Academic Misconduct Advocacy

December 14th, 2018

Are you dealing with harassment, discrimination, theft or threats on campus? We’re here for you.

If you have a concern regarding another student, staff person, faculty member, or anyone else connected to the university community, or if you are accused of non-academic misconduct, you can contact the UWSA Vice-President Student Affairs (VPSA).

Your VPSA is familiar with non-academic misconduct procedures and can guide you through your options. The UWSA works to ensure that students know their rights, are safe, and can confidentially seek guidance on finding support and figuring out next steps.

For assistance, please contact your VP Student Affairs, Jade DeFehr, at 204-786-9780 or vpsa@theuwsa.ca and find more information on this page.

Being suspected of academic misconduct is serious and stressful. The UWSA’s VP Student Affairs is familiar with the policy and procedures regarding how to appeal an academic misconduct claim. The VPSA is available to help support, guide, and represent students during all levels of the process. If you’ve been accused of Academic Misconduct, visit this webpage to learn more or pick up one of these helpful guides from the UWSA Offices and at places like the UWinnipeg Library and University departments.

Memorial display and Artwork Talk for National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

December 3rd, 2018

Join UWSA Women Trans Spectrum Centre and Gallery 1C03 for a memorial display and artwork talk for National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
Monday, December 3, 2018
Display: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Talk: 11:00 am
Riddell Hall Atrium, University of Winnipeg

On December 6, 1989, 14 women were killed at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal in a brutal act of misogyny. Soon after, artist, writer and activist Lin Gibson created “Murdered by Misogyny: Forever”, a multi-site installation of 14 plaques that were displayed across Winnipeg — each prominently stating the name of one of the women killed — to memorialize these women and to draw attention to gender-based violence. One of the 14 plaques, honouring Nathalie Croteau, was acquired jointly by the University of Winnipeg Students Association ((UWSA) and the University of Winnipeg. This plaque has been displayed on the west wall of Gallery 1C03 since 1990.

This year, on December 3, the UWSA’s Women-Trans Spectrum Centre and Gallery 1C03 are partnering to present a memorial event in conjunction with the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women. WTSC will present a display honouring these 14 women in front of Riddell Hall from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm and Gallery 1C03’s Curatorial Intern Breanna Waterman will present a brief talk about Lin Gibson’s installation “Murdered by Misogyny: Forever” at 11:00 am. All are welcome to attend.

For further information, please contact Gallery 1C03 Director/Curator Jennifer Gibson at j.gibson@uwinnipeg.ca or the UWSA Women-Trans Spectrum Centre at wtsc@theuwsa.ca.
