Fall 2022 Reading Week Survey

January 19th, 2022

Due to scheduling conflicts, the Fall 2022 Reading Week may need to be moved to different dates in October or November.

The UWSA has created a quick survey to gather information about which dates would work better for UofW students. We appreciate your input as the data gathered will help us advocate for the option that students prefer.

You can find the survey here: Fall 2022 Reading Week Survey

UWSA Discord Server

January 16th, 2022

Inspired by a motion led by one of our Board of Director’s Clifford Stornel, the UWSA has created a Discord Server just for UofW students! 👥

Discord is an easy, low-barrier way for students to connect with each other while remotely learning. Discord servers are organized into topic-based channels where students can share, talk on the voice channels, chat, and hang out with each other within certain departments and sub-communities ranging from student groups to gaming! There will be a how-to video coming soon for anyone who is new to Discord servers.

Students will have to sign up through the SurveyMonkey survey to get the server link: UWSA Discord Survey Monkey

There is also a contest! Anyone who joins the UWSA Discord is entered for a chance to win our ✨Discord Prize Pack!✨ The prize is a Bose Bluetooth speaker, a toque from Shop Take Care, UWSA Swag, and a $50 gift card for the UW Bookstore! Winner will be announced at the end of the month on the Discord Server.

Contest is open to current UWinnipeg students only. You will need your student ID to collect your prize. Current UWSA employees and directors are not eligible to enter.

Please view the Terms and Conditions and Community Guidelines for Discord use.

Any questions about the UWSA Discord can go to communications@theuwsa.ca.

Hot Meals for Unsheltered Relatives

December 22nd, 2021

On Tuesday, December 21, 2021, The UWSA’s Vice-President Student Affairs, Jonathan Henderson, organized an initiative called Hot Meals for Unsheltered Relatives. We distributed 300+ ready-to-eat meals to unsheltered relatives throughout the city. In addition, the UWSA, Canadian Federation of Students Manitoba, The University of Winnipeg, and The University of Winnipeg Sustainability Office have collectively donated $4500 to purchase 300+ hot meals. Meals were prepared by Feast Cafe Bistro.

“It has been a humbling experience to raise over $4,500 in order to provide hot meals for our unsheltered relatives in Winnipeg. Those that contributed are greatly appreciated. It is important that we help others in our community as much as we can. There are so many great initiatives in Winnipeg doing all they can to help our unsheltered relatives,” Says Jonathan Henderson. “It’s truly been amazing the support received from the UWSA, U of W, U of W Sustainability, and CFSMB. I also want to thank the Feast Bistro for preparing these hot meals. Finally, I want to wish our student body, faculty, and staff a wonderful holiday season, stay safe, and if you can, help those less fortunate, we are all part of this wonderful community of Winnipeg, continue to show those big hearts full of love, thank you.”
