University of Winnipeg St. John Ambulance Sub-Division (UWSJA)
Are you comfortable giving first aid? Do you want to serve the community? St. John Ambulance Volunteer Services allows members of the public to learn and provide first aid at various community events such as Winnipeg Blue Bombers games, marathons, and more. We have regular training meetings to equip you with/refresh you on the skills you need to be a confident and capable first aider. This volunteer opportunity is for individuals who are responsible and have good critical thinking skills.
Membership: The UWSJA is a sub-division for UWinnipeg students who are either Standard First-Aiders (SFAs) or Medical First Responders (MFRs) for St. John Ambulance’s Division 3. SFAs, or Pre-MFRs/Shadows — are those who are looking to become a full MFR and must complete their shadow hours. SFAs shadow MFRs at various events and attend mandatory training meetings. MFRs (full and on probation) attend the mandatory training meetings (1-2/month) and fufill the yearly 60 hour volunteer hours requirement. Current Division 3 SFAs and MFRs will be organized by Wynonna and Norman (Community Services Coordinator). Questions? Or looking into becoming a SFA? Please contact Wynonna at mendoza-w@webmail.uwinnipeg.ca.
