Alternate Grading Option 2022

April 29th, 2022

Due to the additional challenges faced by students because of the pandemic and remote learning, students may choose how their grades from the Winter 2022 and Fall/Winter 2022 terms will affect their grade point average (GPA).

When can I request an Alternate Grading Option?

This option will be made available after final grades are posted (tentatively May 18, 2022). Once final grades are posted, forms will become available here under “How Do I Make a Request”. Students will need to complete either an Undergraduate form or a Graduate form and then send it via your UWinnipeg webmail to Student Central at studentcentral@uwinnipeg.ca.

The deadline to apply for the Alternate Grade Option is May 31, 2022.

What are my options for an alternate grade?

Option 1: A notation will be added beside the grade to indicate that it is not included in the GPA — however it is visible on your transcript so that it can be used as a prerequisite for other courses as required. Please note that other post-secondary institutions may not recognize this exclusion.

Option 2: You can also choose a pass/fail option instead. This means that you will get an ‘S’ (Standing) on your transcript instead of a grade, provided you passed the course. If you failed to pass your course you will get an ‘F’. Please note that an ‘S’ won’t meet the requirement as a prerequisite course if a minimum grade is required.

Who do I talk to to help me make a decision about an alternate grade?

Undergraduates are not required to an advisor to request an alternate grade, but we do encourage you to meet with an Academic Advisor to help you make the best decision for your academic goals.

Students in the Faculty of Education should meet with their respective advisor if they’d like to request an Alternate Grading Option. Details can be found here: Education Academic Advising.

Students in the Faculty of Graduate Studies must consult with their graduate program coordinator and get their sign-off on the request form, indicating that they have been advised of the potential ramifications of their choice. More information can be found here: Graduate Studies.

How do I meet with an academic advisor?

University of Winnipeg will be offering drop-in sessions from May 19 to May 31. Academic Advisors will be available for 10-minute drop-in session’s via Zoom on Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. You can email advising@uwinnipeg.ca to request the zoom link.

More details are on the university’s Academic Advising page.

Where can I find more information about this on the UofW website?

Standing in Solidarity with Ukraine

March 10th, 2022

The Ukrainian flag has been raised at the University of Winnipeg to show support for Ukraine’s friends and allies.

The blue and yellow colours of the flag have been used on the national flag since 1848. The blue colour represents the sky, streams, and mountains of Ukraine and the yellow colour symbolizes Ukraine’s golden wheat fields and the richness of the earth.

As Russia commits crimes against humanity the UWSA stands in solidarity with The University of Winnipeg Ukrainian Students’ Association (UWUKRSA) and its allies in upholding the importance of democracy and freedom in Ukraine.
