What’s the meaning of life? What makes something a work of art? Is cereal a soup? There’s only one place to know the answer: The Philosophy Students’ Association (PhilSA), which is a community for those who desire to grow in knowledge and wisdom through fellowship and discussion. They aim to aid the use of reason to seek the Truth, leaving no stone unturned nor any topic untouchable; you never know what wisdom you might find in the most unexpected of places. PhilSA has many members who aim to specialize in different areas of Philosophy, such as Existentialism, Ancient Philosophy, Political Philosophy, Phenomenology, Aesthetics, and more. But even the most ridiculous of topics, such as if cereal is actually a soup, have their place in PhilSA. Anyone who is interested in learning how to use reason effectively in a wide variety of topics and is willing to engage in healthy, sometimes difficult dialogue is welcome to visit and learn amongst peers. And, if you think you know the answer to whether cereal is a soup (if cereal is a soup, is in it’s own category, or if it’s something else entirely!) then come visit them during their regular meetings! Join PhilSA for regular meetings, colloquia, debate nights, community, and more! For information regarding meeting times, join the PhilSA Discord.

The University of Winnipeg MEDLIFE Chapter is part of a global movement dedicated to Medicine, Education, and Development for Low-Income Families Everywhere. As one of the newest student-led groups on campus, the chapter connects passionate students with opportunities to create sustainable change both locally and abroad. This past May (2025), members traveled to Lima, Peru, where they worked alongside physicians, dentists, and other healthcare professionals to provide free mobile clinics, support community development projects, and collaborate with pre-med volunteers from around the world. The experience highlighted MEDLIFE’s mission of empowering communities through hands-on service, while inspiring members to bring that same energy back home through fundraisers, guest speaker events, and skill-building workshops such as suturing clinics. Whether students are interested in global health, community service, or professional development, the University of Winnipeg MEDLIFE Chapter offers a meaningful way to get involved, make a difference, and join a growing international network of changemakers. When you join MEDLIFE, you are a part of a family that spreads across the world and only opens up more opportunities for you to give back while growing your own abilities.

Membership: In the University of Winnipeg MEDLIFE Chapter is open to any student, regardless of academic background or field of study; you don’t have to be in the sciences to get involved. Becoming a member is simple: students are encouraged to attend our bi-weekly to monthly meetings and actively participate in the initiatives we host throughout the year. This could mean helping out with community projects, supporting fundraisers, attending guest speaker talks, practicing practical skills at our suture clinics, or, most impactfully, joining one of our Service Learning Trips (SLTs). These life-changing trips take members to South America or Africa for 1-2 weeks to work alongside local professionals and provide free healthcare to underserved communities with little to no medical access. Active involvement is not only rewarding but also comes with tangible benefits; the more you participate and contribute to our chapter, the greater your chances of receiving discounts toward future SLTs.
